چکیده مقاله:

Floating breakwaters are widely used due to their various advantages over stationary breakwaters. Lots of researches have been done on hydrodynamics and the type of bracing of these kinds of structures in recent years. In this study, numerical modeling of stresses caused by collision waves has been investigated. For this purpose, samples of floating breakwaters have been modeled in ANSYS software. First, AQWA tool in ANSYS finite element software has been used. After calculating the force caused by the waves from this software module, the results are entered into the MECHANICAL module and the stress analysis is performed by this module. Next, the results of modeling have been validated with laboratory values. Finally, the stresses in the breakwater body have been investigated. The results show that highest amount of stresses caused by waves collision occur under a wave having a period equal to one of the natural periods of the structure and also due to the period distribution against the wave height, the highest possible wave altitude that occurs during a specific period causes the greatest stress.

Ludwick Cantilever Beam in Large Deflection Under Vertical Constant Load

The aim of this paper is to calculate the horizontal and vertical displacements of a cantilever beam in large deflections. The proposed structure is composed with Ludwick material exhibiting a different behavior to tensile and compressive actions. The geometry of the cross-section is constant and rectangular, while the external action is a vertical constant load applied at the free end. The pro...

NUMERICAL MODELING OF DIFFRACTION THROUGH A BREAKWATER GAP

Wave diffraction is a very important phenomenon in marine engineering and several models have been developed for its simulation. The new version of SWAN, a third generation spectral model, includes an approximation to wave diffraction. The approximation is based on the mild-slope equation for refraction and diffraction, omitting phase information. The objective this paper is to evaluate the per...

Mathematical Modeling of Intravascular Blood Coagulation under Wall Shear Stress

Increased shear stress such as observed at local stenosis may cause drastic changes in the permeability of the vessel wall to procoagulants and thus initiate intravascular blood coagulation. In this paper we suggest a mathematical model to investigate how shear stress-induced permeability influences the thrombogenic potential of atherosclerotic plaques. Numerical analysis of the model reveals t...

Size Effect on Strength of Floating Sea Ice under Vertical Line Load

The size effect on the nominal strength of a floating ice plate subjected to a vertical uniform line load is analyzed. The cracks produced by the load, which are parallel to the load line, are treated as softening inelastic hinges. The problem is one dimensional in the direction normal to the load line, equivalent to a beam on elastic foundation provided by buoyancy of ice in water. The softeni...

Modeling the Vertical Falling Life Chute

Stretchable woven chute is a safe device for falling humans from multi-story buildings in emergencies. During the fall, the elastomeric property of the fabric, in the weft direction, causes radial forces towards the human body inside .These radial forces lead to frictional forces between the chute and the body. The falling man can reduce the falling speed by exerting outward forces via stretchi...
